2014 sale and rename

KUER reported that Island View operated in Syracuse before being sold to a new company and renamed Elevations RTC in April 2014. The same report noted that the sale and rename happened as Island View was drawing public attention over litigation involving a teen sent to the program after appearing on Dr. Phil McGraw's television show (KUER).

2020 KUER reporting on former residents and police calls

In December 2020, KUER reported that it had spoken with 14 former residents of Island View and Elevations whose attendance ranged from 1996 to 2020, and that all alleged some form of physical, sexual, or psychological abuse. KUER also reviewed Syracuse Police Department call data for the facility address from January 1, 2005 through October 27, 2020; Elevations' legal counsel told KUER that police-call volume showed youth had access to communication and said he did not know of a substantiated abuse pattern at the facility (KUER).

2024 lawsuit by former resident

In January 2024, The Salt Lake Tribune reported that Finn Richardson sued Elevations RTC and a therapist, alleging abuse and neglect while he was in the facility's care. The lawsuit alleged that the program failed to report Richardson's child-abuse allegation and unlawfully detained him; those allegations are litigation claims, not findings (The Salt Lake Tribune).

2024 reporting on state records

KSL reported in September 2024 on a former resident and advocates pushing for more oversight of Utah's troubled-teen industry after an NBC News investigation into Elevations and other Family Help & Wellness programs. KSL described Elevations as a Syracuse youth residential facility in the Family Help & Wellness network and summarized NBC's finding that several network locations had been cited by regulators for failing to report critical incidents, including injuries and alleged abuse (KSL).
