School Program and Units

The Provo City School District states that Slate Canyon Youth Center has a 15-bed short-term detention unit and 32 beds in long-term secure-care units. The same source says most short-term detention residents are middle-school through high-school age, while long-term secure care can vary widely in length depending on the juvenile justice process (Provo City School District).

2025 Mural Project

In March 2025, the Utah Department of Health and Human Services announced the unveiling of "A Time of Kindness and Healing," a mural created with youth in custody at Slate Canyon Youth Center, community partners, and artist Beto Conejo (Utah DHHS).
