Bettelheim era

Bruno Bettelheim directed the Orthogenic School from 1944 to 1973. The school remains historically associated with his development of a milieu-therapy model, while later public accounts and biographies have also reported allegations by former students and staff that Bettelheim used abusive or violent treatment practices. Those allegations are part of the broader public reassessment of Bettelheim's legacy.

2014 move and reorganization

The school moved to 6245 S. Ingleside Avenue in 2014 after separating from the University of Chicago. It later emphasized a larger day-school structure and added transition, summer, and diagnostic programs.
