2026 Marshall Project Investigation

On July 30, 2026, The Marshall Project published an investigation into Fox Run based on police records, state inspection reports from 2020 through 2025, and interviews with former residents and former staff. The report described frequent law-enforcement responses, allegations of violence among youth and by staff, suicide attempts, escapes, and state oversight records that did not reflect some incidents documented by sheriff's deputies (The Marshall Project).

Fox Run CEO Randy MacKendrick told The Marshall Project that the facility serves children with complex behavioral health needs and that aggression, self-harm, suicide attempts, and attempts to leave are not uncommon among that population. He said Fox Run cooperates with regulators, investigates concerns, and reports incidents when required (The Marshall Project).

Becker's Behavioral Health summarized the investigation the next day and reported that Fox Run had drawn scrutiny over safety incidents, inspection deficiencies, staff discipline, and broader questions involving Universal Health Services facilities (Becker's Behavioral Health).
