2022 Escape and Security Review

On January 26, 2022, five youth escaped from a medium-maximum security unit at Echo Glen. DCYF said it formed a Critical Incident Response Team, worked with law enforcement, and began or accelerated changes including gate replacement, staff training changes, increased security rounds, and video-system replacement (DCYF bulletin).

2023 Escape

In May 2023, seven youth escaped from Echo Glen after assaulting a security guard, locking her in a cell, and taking her vehicle, according to court documents described by FOX 13 Seattle. The report said all seven were later arrested and faced new charges including robbery, kidnapping, assault, escape, and motor-vehicle theft (FOX 13 Seattle).

2024 Security Improvements

In 2024, the City of Snoqualmie reported that Echo Glen officials had presented security improvements to the city's Public Safety Committee after multiple escapes over the previous two years. The city highlighted perimeter-fence planning and other security upgrades at the facility (City of Snoqualmie).
